After my 70s inspired shoot with Kaitlyn, I wanted to do something influenced by the 1950s. So, last Tuesday evening Kaitlyn and I managed to pull together a beehive using Elsie’s loofah beehive tutorial and drove until we found a location that peeked our fancy.
I pulled my old Junior prom dress from my closet for the shoot. The sleeve was still torn from dancing so I spent an hour mending it. I bought it from Beta Boutique for $60 back then and I still love it so much. Now that it’s fixed I need more excuses to wear it out! Who’s taking me out for a fancy dinner date? The little hat I picked up at an antique mall recently and the clutch used to be my grandmother’s.
I’m trying to work on shooting in “bad” lighting. Partially as a challenge and partially because I want more variation within my portfolio. Since I can’t afford a studio lighting set-up, I’m working with what I have. The sun had already set so I used a streetlight to light the above right photo.
The below photo was lit with my car headlights and then rescued quite a bit in Photoshop. I kept my ISO low because I didn’t want to sacrifice quality. I really love how it came out.
Everything was shoot with a Canon 50d and my 50mm 1.4 lens.
Thanks for looking!
This is a beautiful shoot! very inspiring! I’m currently working on trying to shoot in weird lighting so these were some great ideas! Thanks!
